According to a current market study conducted by Markets & Markets on Medical plastics, the global market in this segment will grow by a good 7 percent per year until 2020. The market researchers state that PVC is currently the most widely used plastic in this segment due to the versatility of PVC material and the fact that it is easy to sterilise. According to the study, PVC is most frequently used for flexible containers and hoses in particular.

The plastics industry in Germany is an important sector and the key industry in fields such as lightweight construction, packaging and building. Plastics products and applications are far too valuable to simply be thrown away, even at the end of their lifespan. Regular information on how the flow of plastic material is developing precisely can be found in the „Consultic“ study, which is conducted every two years. The study is now being carried out for the 10th time in order to collect reliable facts and figures on the production, use and recycling of plastics in Germany. The study is also highly appreciated by politicians and other authorities. Over the next few months, Consultic Marketing & Industrieberatung GmbH will conduct surveys in more than 2000 companies from the fields of plastics production, processing and recycling. The survey documentation will be complemented by official statistics on the production and areas of application of plastics, as well as comprehensive waste analyses. The last study on PVC figures in Germany was made last year and can be downloaded from the PVC WIKI.

The current study is being produced on behalf of PlasticsEurope Germany, the Beteiligungs- und Kunststoffverwertungsgesellschaft mbH (BKV), the Bundesverband Sekundärrohstoffe und Entsorgung e.V. (bvse), the German Industry Association for Plastics Packaging and Films (IVK) and the Association of Plastics and Rubber Machinery of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA).

The update of the AGPU Brochure „Everything about PVC” is currently in the last phase of coordination. The printed bilingual brochure will be available in time for the PVC Workshop on 12th January next year. AGPU member companies that plan to use the brochure at K 2016, the International Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber, or other events are requested to contact our office to let us know their demand for such events.

The next joint „PVC and the Environment“ workshop hosted by AGPU and PlasticsEurope will take place in Bonn (Germany) on 12th January 2016. At the end of November, both the registration documents and the programme for the expert forum were sent out by e-mail. The response is huge and we have now already received more than 60 registrations from participants.

The winter workshop will feature a multitude of speakers focusing on current topics. The architect Katja Bernert (Mehler Texnologies), for example, will present the advantages of PVC-coated membranes in textile architecture. Ulrich Schlotter (BKV) will report on the discussion concerning the new German Law on Recyclable Materials (Wertstoffgesetz). Dr Berthold Schäfer (German Building Materials Association (BBS)) will explore the impact of the German Resource Efficiency Programme (ProgRess II) in the construction sector. Other speakers include Jan Mervart (DEZA), who will talk about DEHP and REACH; Dr Ivo Mersiowsky (Quiridium), who will explore the topic of eco-efficiency on the basis of PlasticsEurope eco-profiles, and Tilman Benzing (VCI), who will discuss the bioeconomy strategy of the German Federal Government.
